SUMMARY:Process over Production: Healing\, Growing and Embodying Our Humanity
DESCRIPTION:Ebony Williams ’08 believes the link\, the thread\, the piece of yarn\, that connects her life work is her belief in process. While it’s common that human beings spend much of our time focused on the problem and the solution to obstacles that arise from living\, the middle part\, the journey we go through to reach our desired end point is where we learn the most. It is where we are presented with the most opportunities to grow and experience our humanity\, but it is also where we spend the least amount of time reflecting. In this talk Williams’ discusses the focus of her work\, creating opportunities for individuals to indulge in the luxury of their process in order to heal. Registration is required for this Zoom event. \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:FabAcademy Info Session
DESCRIPTION:Wheaton is offering a new course this semester called FabAcademy and will be holding an info session for students who would like to learn more. If you are interested in participating in FabAcademy this year or in the future\, we recommend you attending. Students must be on campus next semester to take this course. \nSign up here. \n  \n“At the Fab Academy\, you will learn how to envision\, prototype and document your ideas through many hours of hands-on experience with digital fabrication tools.” Under the leadership of global instructor Neil Gershenfeld\, Wheaton students will be exposed to  innovative communities and ideas at a global level over the course of six months. Gershenfeld\, MIT Professor and Director of the Center for Bits + Atoms\, originally taught “How to Make Almost Anything” as an MIT course which grew into FabAcademy in 2009. Students who successfully complete FabAcademy will graduate with an extensive digital portfolio detailing their progress and final project. They will also gain the knowledge needed to take an idea from prototype to product. Wheaton will be the first college in New England to offer FabAcademy to its students. For more information\, visit the website! \nIf you have any questions about this course\, please email Madison at dunaway_madison@wheatoncollege.edu

SUMMARY:Virtual Gallery Opening—Postcards from the Pandemic
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition is an open call for postcard-sized responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. All submissions will be included in the exhibition and become part of the Wheaton College Permanent Collection. The exhibition is an effort to combat the social isolation this virus has forced on us. It is a chance to see\, through the eyes of another\, an expression of this experience. It is an opportunity to come together when we still have to remain physically apart. Submissions are welcome through Oct. 10 at u.nu/postcards. \nRegister on Zoom here . \nThe exhibition will be on display October 20–November 24 2020. \nDue to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic\, the Beard & Weil Galleries will only be open to the on-campus Wheaton community during the fall 2020 semester. We will make every effort to make our exhibitions available virtually during this time. We appreciate your patience as we navigate this global challenge and we look forward to welcoming you back to campus when we are able to resume normal operations.
