DESCRIPTION:Please join President Michaele Whelan\, Provost Touba Ghadessi and Dean of Students Darnell Parker for the college’s annual celebration of academic accomplishment. \nProfessor Francisco Fernández de Alba\nDepartmental and College awards will be presented to students who have distinguished themselves as scholars and academic citizens of Wheaton College.  Senior Class President Caylynn Watson-Fields ’23 will present the Faculty Appreciation Award and Provost Touba Ghadessi will announce the recipient of this year’s endowed honorary chair\, Jane E. Ruby Chair in Humanities and Social Sciences. \nProfessor of Hispanic Studies Francisco Fernández de Alba will deliver the keynote address titled “On the Lasting Value of a Good Book”. \nThe lineup for the procession begins promptly at 4:45 p.m.  College Marshals Stephanie Daniels and Russell Williams will line up the faculty in front of Knapton Hall and students in front of the Chapel. (Inclement weather: Faculty will line up in the lower level of the Chapel and students will line up in Balfour-Hood). \nJoin us for a campus BBQ on the Dimple immediately following the ceremony.  The event is open to the public but seating is limited and on a first-come\, first-served basis.  The recording of the ceremony and the official program will be available online shortly after the event. DESCRIPTION:Five-time Grammy Award winner Angélique Kidjo is one of the greatest artists in international music today\, a creative force with fifteen albums to her name. Kidjo’s creative power is palpable through the beauty and strength of her voice\, her music and movement\, visual aesthetic\, linguistic prowess and enormous advocacy work that serves so many. Kidjo has cross-pollinated the West African traditions of her childhood in Benin with elements of American R&B\, funk and jazz\, as well as influences from Europe and Latin America. Yet her love for collaboration inspires musical fusions and partnering with gifted musicians from across the globe. Angelique also advocates on behalf of children as a UNICEF and OXFAM Ambassador.
