Opportunities for writers

Wheaton abounds with opportunities for writers.

Students interested in honing their writing craft may take additional writing classes, learn how to conference with other writers about their work, or work as editors or writers for a variety of publications.

To have life, writing needs an audience. Write for someone other than your teacher or your roommate or your parents' refrigerator. Consider any of the following:

Midnight Oil

Wheaton History Professor Kathryn Tomasek edits this annual journal, which publishes student-authored academic work that has been nominated by faculty. Contact ktomasek@wheatonma.edu for information.

Rushlight

Nearly 175 years old, Wheaton's annual literary magazine publishes poetry, prose and original artwork. November deadlines. Contact Professor Sue Standing standin@wheatonma.edu to learn more.

Ten-Minute Play Festival

Playwright-in-Residence Professor Charlotte Meehan runs this madcap competition twice yearly, once in October and once in February. Meehan posts a creative prompt on her Meneely office door and brave playwrights have less than one week to write and submit a ten-minute play to be performed that weekend.
Contact cmeehan@wheatonma.edu for details.

The Wire

Wheaton's student newspaper. Email wire@wheatonma.edu for more information, or read the Wire on the web.
