Wheaton Equestrian Team Continues to Rule the Region

Two members of the Wheaton Equestrian Team finished the fall riding season among the top ten college riders in the nation. Senior Orissa Moulton and junior Sophie Kohut, are ranked 8th and 10th, respectively, in the open (the highest) division of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA).

The team, which won the region championship in 2006, currently holds first place in the region just ahead of Tufts University. Four Wheaton riders have qualified to compete at the regional level so far this year and more team members likely to qualify for competition this spring.

Molly Hislop '08, the team's spokesperson, said the squad aspires to "keep it up next semester and go on to (the New England) zones (competition) and nationals."

Wheaton's Equestrian Team is one of the college's club sports. Founded in 1872, it is the second-oldest sports team at the college. It receives funding from the Student Government Association and is run by students with support from Head Coach Amanda Hare. The team consistently places well in the IHSA), where they compete against Harvard, Wellesley, Boston College and Boston University, to name a few.
