Getting Images from Your Desktop onto the Web with Internet Explorer FTP and Windows
Please note: these instructions are for Windows users and were last updated on April 29, 2008.
FTP (File Tranfer Protocol) vs. Frontier: Frontier is the college's web editor; you can use it to edit the text, and include a link to an image you would like displayed, on your page. In addition to a link on your webpage, the image needs to be on the college's server to display. FTP will allow you move the image to the college's web server from your desktop so it's available to your webpage.
Finding FTP:
In order to get your images up on the site, you need to upload the image to the folder containing your site. To do this, launch Internet Explorer and type in this address : ftp://yourwID@frontier.wheatoncollege.edu (of course you will substitute your wID in the address).
Log In:
To sign in, you need to fill out the "User name" and "Password" fields. Use your wID as your username. Your password will be assigned by the Web Strategy Team. Once you have filled in the form, click the "Log On" button.
Inside FTP:
When you first open FTP, you will see some folders. Find the folder that houses your website and double-click on its name to open it. Once inside your folder, locate its "images" folder. If there is no folder called "images", you can create a "New Folder" and call it "images". Double-click on that folder to open it. Once inside the Images folder, you can transfer your image by dragging from your desktop and dropping it into the images folder.
Note that you will need to log in again. Do this by choosing VIEW --> "Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer" and log in again, using your FTP user name and password combination.
Images Folder:

You will know that you have transferred your photo correctly when you see it in the images folder just as you see to your left.
Editing Images Inside FTP:

To remove, or rename an image, just click on the image title and a menu will appear on the left, as seen above.
Once you have transferred all of your images, you may close Internet Explorer.
