Getting Images from Your Desktop onto the Web with Fetch

FOR MAC USERS

Fetch (File Tranfer Protocol tool) vs. Frontier: Frontier is the web editor, the place where you can edit and/or create new text. Any adjustments you wish to make to your web pages can be done here. Within Frontier, you can type the address of an image you would like to include in your page, but there is one more step needed for the image to appear on your site. Fetch via FTP allows you transfer your image from your desktop onto the web server, and thus, to appear on your webpage.

FTP is the way to transfer files from one machine to another.

How to Use Fetch:

In order to get your images up on the site, you need to upload the image to the folder containing the host site. To do this, use Fetch (the puppy icon) to open the web server.

To sign in, you need to fill out the Hostname, Username and Password.
The hostname is the Wheaton web address, as seen in the image. Use your W-ID as your username. Your password will be assigned by the Web Strategy Team. You can change it after your first sign-in. Make sure the "Connect Using" is set on FTP. Once you have done this, click Connect.

Before you begin to work in your folder, take a moment to set your Fetch preferences to make your experience easier. You only need to make this adjustment once. Under Fetch on the top left of your tool bar, scroll down to Preferences and select.

Once inside the Preferences folder, click on the third option-"Upload." This will bring the above box. Please make yours look just like the one on this page.

When you first open Fetch, you will see a myriad of folders. Choose the folder that houses your website. Scroll through the folder titles until you find the one on which you would like to work.

Once inside the folder, locate the Images folder. If there is no Images folder, you can click the New Folder button and create an Images folder.

Once inside the Images folder, you can upload your image by dragging and dropping it into the images folder. You will know that you have uploaded your photo correctly when you see it in the images folder just as you see to your left. To see the image on your web page, you will need to follow the import image directions in the Web Editor.
