A celebration in pictures
Wheaton's 167th Commencement, on Saturday, May 18, featured historian David McCullough as commencement speaker. Joining McCullough on the dais were honorary degree recipients Howard Gardner P'94, a theorist of multiple human intelligences and researcher of human cognition; Trish Karter '77, entrepreneur, president and co-founder of Dancing Deer Baking Company; and Andrew Wyeth, painter.
McCullough spoke to the Class of 2002 about choices, and how we have more choices than any civilization in history--hundreds of thousands of items at the supermarket, 822 distinct professions and seemingly endless television channels.
McCullough recommended to seniors such choices as reading in lieu of watching TV; building something rather than playing spectator; finding a life partner with a great sense of humor; and finding work you love.
In addition to 325 graduates and their families, the weekend attracted 600 alumni for Reunion. For more on weekend festivities, visit the Commencement Reunion 2002 pages.
