Tip #3: Know Your Feeders Identify the undergraduate programs that have sent successful graduate students from underrepresented groups to your department in the past, and try to establish mentoring connections to similar students earlier in their undergraduate careers. Contact the faculty at those feeder institutions who teach courses in African American or postcolonial literatures and let them know that you’re serious about recruiting. And always follow up leads with particular students and faculty members. |
