SILCS is also a member of the Group for Underrepresented Students in Higher Education and Research (GUSHER). GUSHER is a consortium of summer research institutes dedicated to enhancing the recruitment, retention, and success of students from underrepresented groups in graduate study in the humanities.
G.U.S.H.E.R. Programs
- AHSI (Arts and Humanities Summer Institute). AHSI is open to rising juniors and seniors and focuses on English.
- AALCI (African American Literatures and Cultures Institute). AALCI is open to rising seniors and is focused on African American literature.
- MURAP (Moore Undergraduate Research Apprenticeship Program). MURAP is open to rising juniors and seniors and focuses on the humanities social sciences and fine arts.
- REDI (Rutgers English Diversity Institute). REDI is open to students and recent graduates who are interested in graduate study in Literature in English.
Other Diversity Programs
- IRT (Institute for the Recruitment of Teachers). This program is open to rising or graduating college seniors.
- Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship. Eligible fellows are selected in their sophomore year.
- SREB (Southern Regional Education Board) State Doctoral Scholars Program. This program is for graduate students already enrolled in a doctoral program.
- American Indian Graduate Center. This center has scholarship opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students.
- FMS (The Future of Minority Studies Research Project). This program, put on by Cornell, is for graduate students and postdoctoral faculty.
