Snow Problem

The day gave new meaning to the phrase "heavy snowfall." Supporters of the women's soccer team turned out with shovels on Saturday, November 13, and went to work clearing Mirrione Stadium by hand for the team's NCAA tournament game with Williams College, postponed to the next day. Although the field was ultimately declared unplayable, and the contest was held in Williamstown, the clean-up effort was a living demonstration of Wheaton spirit. Photos by Erin Brennan '05

President Ronald Crutcher was among those hoisting a shovel for the team. He and his wife, Betty Neal Crutcher, also brought pizza to warm up the gathering.

Smile: you've got friends. Members of the women's soccer team were inspired by the generosity of the Wheaton community during "Operation Dig Up." "We had people from the men's baseball and lacrosse team there, the women's basketball team, the volleyball team, rugby, parents, family members, and so many other students and supporters of our team," said team forward Erin Brennan '05. "We were in awe that so many people were there helping us so that we could play our game at home."
