Visiting Wheaton during their world tour to promote peace and compassion, a group of Tibetan monks from the Gaden Jangste Monastery in South India spent two days in November creating this vividly colored sand mandala. Students, faculty and staff were invited to observe as the monks constructed the intricate design representing Buddha wisdom. See detail below of the nearly completed mandala.
One of the monks also spoke in Professor of Religion Jeffrey Timm's class, "Buddhism: Thought and Action." The monks' visit to campus was co-sponsored by the Evelyn Danzig Haas '39 Visiting Artists Program, the Marshall Multicultural Center, the International Student Organization, the Asian Student Organization, the Dean of Students, the Worldfest Committee and Student Life.
