NEWS @ Wheaton, September 2007

On September 20, Wheaton students decorated T-shirts with messages of hope and solidarity to honor the Cann family of Norton. In late August, Elizabeth Cann was murdered and two of her daughters were critically injured in their home on Reservoir Street. The tragedy prompted service groups on campus to renew their participation in the Clothesline Project, a national initiative that raises awareness about violence against women.
"We wanted to get the message across that domestic violence exists right here in our own small community of Norton," said Roxy Azari '10, a program organizer. "We wanted to demonstrate our opposition and also show support for the Cann family." After displaying the T-shirts in the Balfour-Hood atrium, the students will donate them to the New Hope domestic violence program in Attleboro.

The Wheaton project was sponsored by Wheaton's Organization for Women, Distinguished Women of Color Collective, the Marshall Center for Intercultural Learning and the Office of Service, Spirituality and Social Responsibility. Photos by Hannah Benoit, News @ Wheaton editor.
