CAMPUS NEWS AND EVENTS
Commencement Reunion weekend
Family members and alumnae/i joined us on May 20 to give the Class of 2006 a rousing sendoff. Commencement speaker Cokie Roberts, Capitol Hill reporter and news analyst for NPR and ABC News, urged Wheaton's 385 graduates to respect and participate in government and the democratic process. The college presented honorary degrees to Roberts, Patricia Arnold '66, Kathleen Dennehy '76 and Elspeth Davies Rostow, a political science scholar. See the Commencement Reunion web site for links to the Commencement web broadcast, photos, special honors and more.

Blogging in the Burren
Fifteen students plan to spend most of June making art inspired by the history, geography and culture of western Ireland. Professors Andy Howard and Tim Cunard are leading the intensive, three-week class based at the Burren College of Art, which is an hour south of Galway. The class offers students the chance to "be immersed in the experience (of making art) without other courses and demands," says Professor Howard, who will be blogging photographs and text of the group's experience. Keep an eye on what the students and their professors are doing, and post comments on the proceedings, at http://artsinireland.wheatoncollege.edu.

ANNUAL FUND DEADLINE JUNE 30
What's Middlebury got that we ain't got?
Participation! At Middlebury College, more than half the alumni give to their alma mater's annual fund. Participation at Williams tops 60 percent. At Wheaton, alumni giving clocks in at just 37 percent, one of the lowest rates among comparable colleges. If you're one of the 4,500 friends who have contributed to the Annual Fund this year, we thank you! If not, your gift today - in ANY amount - will help bridge the participation gap. Why is participation so important? Find out here.
