Political analyst Mary Anne Marsh'79 addresses Wheaton political science students

Political pundit Mary Anne Marsh, Wheaton class of 1979, will address Wheaton students studying political science on Tuesday, April 11 at 6 p.m. Marsh, named one of the eight most influential women behind the scenes in Massachusetts politics by the Boston Globe, will speak on the upcoming presidential election and her experiences as a media talking head at CNN, MSNBC, and Fox Cable News over dinner in the Chase Small dining hall.

Currently the senior vice president of integrated strategies for GPC/O Neill & Associates, Marsh has more than 15 years of experience in public policy, communications and electoral politics. She was the founder and president of 21st Century Strategies from January 1991 through January 2000. There she provided strategic planning advice in developing national grassroots organizations for public policy campaigns, communications strategies and media relations for numerous clients.

During the 1996 election, Marsh served as the GOTV director for the Massachusetts Democratic Party, which resulted in the defeat of two Republican Congressmen, the re-election of United States Senator John F. Kerry, and the largest plurality for President Clinton in the country. During the 1994 election cycle, her clients included United States Senator Edward M. Kennedy and every Democratic member of the House of Representatives. In addition, Marsh directed Victory [OE]92 for the Democratic Party, managing 212 races overall and succeeding for the first time in history to re-elect every Democratic state senator and representative as well as win nine Republican legislative seats.

Marsh has worked for a number of Democratic elected officials in policy and campaign positions as well, including Senator Kennedy during his campaign for president, Governor Michael S. Dukakis and Joseph P. Kennedy, II of Citizens Energy Corporation.

In addition to consulting, Marsh is a Democratic political analyst providing commentary to a variety of television and radio stations as well as daily newspapers including the Boston Globe, the Boston Herald, Associated Press, Washington Post, New York Times, USA Today, Washington Times, and the Toronto Star. She appears regularly on MSNBC, CNN Inside Politics, Fox network programs, Prime Time Justice on Court-TV and News Night on New England Cable News.

In Boston, Marsh has appeared on WCVB and WBZ television, WBZ-AM news radio, WBUR-FM and WXKS-FM. In 1997, the Boston Globe named Marsh as one of the eight most influential women behind the scenes in Massachusetts politics.Marsh graduated from Wheaton College in 1979 with a major in political science.
