Wheaton alumna speaks on controversy surrounding hyperactivity in children

Dr. Wendy S. Coleman [base ']67 will deliver this year[base ']s LaDonne Heaton Schulman Alumnae/i Lecture in Science at Wheaton College on Tuesday, March 28. Dr. Coleman[base ']s research in child behavior examines the controversial issues surrounding Attention Deficit Disorder and hyperactivity in children.
A chemistry major while at Wheaton, Dr. Coleman did her medical training at the Medical College of Pennsylvania and her residency at St. Christopher[base ']s Hospital for Children, also in Pennsylvania. She completed post-doctoral research fellowships at the University of Wisconsin Children[base ']s Hospital in pediatric hematology and in child psychiatry.Since 1978, Dr. Coleman has been a behavioral pediatrician at the University of Wisconsin. She is the author of several of books and articles on the subject of Attention Deficit Disorder and hyperactivity in children, and has given numerous consultations and presentations on the topic. Her book, Attention Deficit Disorders, Hyperactivity, and Associated Disorders: A Handbook for Professionals and Parents is available at Wheaton[base ']s Old Town Hall Bookstore.
Dr, Coleman[base ']s talk is part of the LaDonne Heaton Schulman Alumnae/i Lecture in Science, which honors LaDonne Heaton Schulman, Wheaton chemistry major and 1957 graduate. Professor Schulman, a geneticist, made significant contributions to the field of molecular biology and taught biology at Einstein Medical School in New York City until her death in 1992. Previous Schulman lecturers include groundbreaking pediatric researcher Mary Ellen Avery '48 and prominent inorganic chemist Mary Hunt '67. The lecture is open without charge to the local community, and will be at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28 in the Hindle Auditorium of the Science Center.
