Wheaton college invites public to 11th annual Martin Lecture in Religion

Wheaton College announces a November 1, 7:00 p.m. lecture, "Signs and History: The Qur’an as Scripture," to be delivered by Dr. William A. Graham, Professor of the History of Religion and islamic Studies and Director of the Center for Middle Eastern Studies at Harvard University. Dr. Graham also chairs the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations at Harvard.

Dr. Graham's career as an academic and religious authority has been distinguished by his numerous published works, and his service on the editorial boards of the Journal of the American Academy of Religion, The Muslim World, and Mugarnas (Islamic Art and Architecture). He has also be recognized for his accomplishments by the multiple fellowships he has received, including the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Fellowship, and the Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship.

Dr. Graham has published scores of books, articles, and reviews on the Koran and Islam and has lectured on both topics in Canada, Germany, Australia, and the United States. His lecture on the Qur’an as scripture will be held in the Holman Room, Mary Lyon Hall, with a reception to follow in the May Room.

The talk, which is free and open to the public, will be the 11th annual Martin Lecture in Religion at Wheaton College. The lecture series was established in 1990 in memory of J. Arthur Martin, a former professor of religion and college chaplain at Wheaton.
