Wheaton track gains two more All Americans after first day of national competition

After the first day of competion at the 2001 NCAA national championship in track and field, the Wheaton women[base ']s track team is already making waves.

Wheaton athletes Kim Jones[base ']04 and Shimera Daniels[base ']02 scored second and fifth respectively in the women[base ']s long jump, giving Wheaton a total of twelve points. Jones exceeded her all-time best in the long jump by 6 inches, jumping 19-10 1/4. This leap bettered both the former Division III season's best and the old Lindsay Stadium record. Daniels leaped 18-3 3/4 feet, marking fifth place in the event. Both athletes were named All American for their performance.

Nine Wheaton women and six Wheaton men have qualified to compete in the national meet. Wheaton[base ']s women have won three consecutive national titles for indoor track and field. The NCAA Division III national championship in track and field, held at Milliken University[base ']s Lindsay Stadium in Decatur, Illinois, runs through Saturday, May 26.
