November 16, 2000

Wheaton[base ']s Watson Gallery is hosting one of its own from November 16 to December 12 as Professor of Art Tim Cunard[base ']s exhibition, ''Recent Works,'' opens with a lecture at 5 p.m., followed by a reception.

According to Cunard, who teaches sculpture, 3-D design and drawing classes, ''The works included in this exhibition were inspired by the writings of Albert Camus, the plays of Samuel Beckett and a speech by Archbishop Desmond Tu Tu. The universal ideas expressed by these men and my long standing interest in alchemy provided the foundation for these sculptures. Tragic or humorous, the human condition remains a constant source of inspiration in my work. Nietzhe states. [OE]We have art in order not to die of the truth.[base ']''

Most recently Cunard has held exhibitions at the Attleboro Museum in Attleboro Massachusetts and at Manchester C & T College in Manchester, Conn. In 1997 he had two solo shows, one at Wheaton titled ''Ether Dreams Shaping Vapors'' and one at the University of Hartford titled ''the act of bringing forth ordered existence.''
