The Buddhist perspective on information-age technology

Peter D. Hershock, fellow of the Asian Studies Development Program at the East-West Center in Honolulu, will give year[base ']s Martin Lecture in Religion at Wheaton College.An annual event, the Martin Lecture was established in 1990 in memory of J. Arthur Martin, a former professor of religion and college chaplain at Wheaton.
Dr. Hershock[base ']s lecture is titled ''Control, Karma and the Colonization of Consciousness: Buddhist Reflections on the Techno-Utopian Myth.'' His research and writing is currently focused on a Buddhist critique of information-age technology, as evidenced from his book, Reinventing the Wheel: A Buddhist Response to the Information Age.
The lecture will be held on November 7 at 7:30 p.m., in the Holman Room of Mary Lyon Hall. The Holman Room is wheelchair accessible, and the lecture is open to the public without charge.
