Back to school for Wheaton students

Summer vacation is just about over for Wheaton[base ']s 1500 students. On Saturday, September 2, Wheaton[base ']s Class of 2004 arrives in Norton to begin their first-year orientation program, followed by returning students on Monday, September 4. After a day of community service in local towns for both new and old students, classes for the fall semester will begin on Wednesday, September 7.
The 455 members of the Class of 2004 come from 35 states and 30 countries and were selected from a pool of over 3,100 applicants. Twenty-eight percent of the class was in the top ten percent of their high schools, with 61 percent coming from public schools and 28 percent from independent schools. One student in the class was home schooled through high school.
The Class of 2004 is also notable for their use of technology: 23 percent of applicants applied for admission on the Web in the college[base ']s first year of online applications.
