First Year Transition
In providing for a comfortable transition into the Wheaton community, the Marshall Center for Intercultural Learning coordinates the Intercultural Pre-Orientation program. This pre-college orientation is open exclusively to first year students. The participants spend two full days with the Intercultural Center staff and volunteer upperclass students getting acclimated to the community. Students learn about available resources, develop a familiarity with the campus, and begin to develop a sense of community with one another prior to joining the larger New Student Orientation program.
As part of an extended orientation, the center hosts a monthly First Year Lunch series. This series invites key members of the faculty and administrative staffs to meet our first year students, and provides introductions to campus offices and programs. This year-long program facilitates the connection to offices, programs and services vital to a student's successful start at Wheaton College. The series also provides opportunities for our first year students to come together as a class and share updates on their experience at Wheaton.
