Accessible Archives
A collection of primary source material from 18th and 19th century periodicals, Accessible Archives "databases contain the rich, comprehensive material found in leading historic periodicals and books. Eyewitness accounts of historical events, vivid descriptions of daily life, editorial observations, commerce as seen through advertisements and genealogical records are now available..."
Individual "databases" within the collection include:
The Liberator, 1831-1865, a weekly newspaper published in Boston by William Lloyd Garrison, "a journalistic crusader who advocated the immediate emancipation of all slaves and gained a national reputation for being one of the most radical of American abolitionists."
Godey's Lady's Book, 1830-1885, a "magazine ...intended to entertain, inform and educate the women of America."
The Pennsylvania Gazette, 1728-1800, "considered The New York Times of the 18th century."
The Civil War: A Newspaper Perspective, 1860-1865, includes The New York Herald, The Charleston Mercury and the Richmond Enquirer.
African American Newspapers: The 19th Century includes: Freedom's Journal (New York) 1827-1829, The Colored American (Weekly Advocate) (New York) 1837-1841, The North Star (Rochester, NY) 1847-1851, The National Era (Washington, D.C.) 1847-1860, Provincial Freeman (Chatham, Canada West) 1854-1857, Frederick Douglass Paper (Rochester, NY) 1851-1859, and The Christian Recorder 1861-1902.
American County Histories to 1900: coverage includes the states of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania (Parts 1, 2, 3 and 4) and New York (Parts 1 and 2).

Aluka
Aluka is an international, collaborative initiative building an online digital library of scholarly resources from and about Africa. "The Aluka website includes a wide variety of high-quality scholarly materials contributed by Aluka's partners, ranging from archival documents, periodicals, books, reports, manuscripts, and reference works, to three-dimensional models, maps, oral histories, plant specimens, photographs, and slides. By aggregating these materials online, the Aluka collections link materials that are widely dispersed and difficult to access, opening up new opportunities for research, teaching, and broader public discussion. One of Aluka's primary objectives is to provide African scholars and students with access to scholarly materials originally from Africa, but now out of their reach." Book Review Digest Plus and Book Review Digest Retrospective
With coverage back to 1983, Book Review Digest Plus indexes reviews of current fiction and non-fiction, and provides review excerpts and over 100,000 full text reviews. A single book can have as little as one review citation and as much as a descriptive summary and many reviews with excerpts and full text, depending upon the coverage the book received in the reviewing literature. The database includes children's books as well as books for adults and young adults. Entries currently encompass some 1,300,000 reviews covering over 550,000 books and grows with daily updates.
Book Review Digest Retrospective covers the years 1905-1982 and provides excerpts from, and citations to, reviews of adult and juvenile fiction and non-fiction. Virtually every book has at least one substantial review excerpt, and most have at least two. The reviews originate in a group of selected periodicals in the humanities, social sciences, and general science published in the United States, Canada, and Great Britain.

Available on the EBSCOhost platform, these 3 titles can be searched separately or together and PDF's include the original article text and graphics. Times (London) Digital Archive 1785-1985
Available from Gale (Cengage Learning), "the Times Digital Archive is a full-image online archive of every page published by The Times (London) from 1785-1985. The text within the images is fully searchable at the article level. Users can easily search news articles, obituaries, advertising and classifieds - virtually everything that appeared in the newspaper. Results are displayed at the article level and users may view the article - or the full page upon which it appeared."
Also, available from Gale, in Academic OneFile on the InfoTrac platform, are searchable articles from The Times from 1985 to the present. The two Times files are currently not cross-searchable, but will be in the "near future."
This new database replaces the Library's subscriptions to the microfilm edition of the Times, the print edition of the daily newspaper and the print Times Index. NEW! 7/08
Treatise on Geochemistry
The electronic version of the 10 volume set published by Elsevier, the Treatise on Geochemistry is fully searchable and includes links to subscribed articles in ScienceDirect.
