Intranet Software Server for Site-Licensed Software

As a Wheaton College Faculty/Staff member or student, you have the ability to quickly and easily install site licensed software by way of the Software Server named "sftserv.wheatonma.edu". Below is a list of the software that is currently available for download from the Software Server (updated 4/16/08). If a piece of software that you are interested in is NOT listed, please contact the LIS Technical Support Staff at x3900 and request the product (they may have it available on a CD for you to sign out.) Instructions for connecting to the Software Server are listed below. If during an installation you are asked for a license code (sometimes referred to as a "product registration code" or "installation code") please look at the corresponding "license.txt" file located in the installation folder.

Windows - Connecting Through UNC Path To Install Software

If you are on a Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP or Vista system and are located on the Wheaton College network you can easily connect to the site-licensed area of the software server by following these steps.

1. Select "Start" then "Run" from your desktop.

2. In the "Run" menu enter "\\sftserv\software$" then select "OK".

3. A window should appear for you to browse through and select the application you need.

Macintosh - Connecting to Shared Folder from a Mac (OS 10.x)

The procedure for connecting to the software volume from a Macintosh OSX system is slightly different. From the icon bar located at the bottom of the screen, select the "Finder". From the top menu headings select "Go" then select "Connect to Server...". In the "Address:" field enter the name "sftserv" then select the "Connect" button. For the "Name:" entry box select "Guest" and leave the "Password:" box blank. From the window "Select the volumes you wish to mount" highlight the "software" entry and select "OK". The mounted volume of "software" should appear on your Macintosh desktop where you can access it like any other drive.
