Transcending Boundaries:
The Power of a Liberal Arts Education

More than a thousand guests—academic delegates, faculty, staff, students, alumnae and alumni, parents, family and friends—streamed into the Beard field house on April 16 to celebrate the inauguration of Ronald A. Crutcher as Wheaton's seventh president. In his inaugural address, President Crutcher spoke of the importance of character and community in his own life and in the life of a college. And he urged American higher education to adopt a "new paradigm" that embraces diversity, relevancy and accountability in the liberal arts.
