Wheaton Study Abroad Programs

Other Expenses for Wheaton Programs
Students participating in a Wheaton program are responsible for passport and visa fees, housing (on some Wheaton programs), Study Abroad Insurance, local transportation, and personal travel. Students must investigate the specific details of the expenses of their particular study abroad program of interest.

Non-Wheaton Approved Programs Fees
Students approved to participate on a Non-Wheaton Program will pay the study abroad program sponsor or university directly for the cost of the program. Each program varies regarding the costs and students should investigate the particular items included with their program of choice. Study Abroad programs generally include items such as tuition, fees, housing, meals, and program-related excursions. Students are responsible for costs related to acquiring visas (if required), airfare to and from the study abroad program, books, personal travel, and other items unrelated to the study abroad program.

Study Abroad Administrative Fee
Students participating in a Non-Wheaton Approved Program will be charged a $500.00 administrative fee per academic year of study abroad to support the Center for Global Education in providing services to students. Students participating in a Non-Wheaton short-term study abroad program (January or Summer) will be charged a $250.00 administrative fee. This fee will be applied to the Wheaton College student bill during regular billing cycles.

Required Supplemental Study Abroad Insurance
All students participating on study abroad programs are required to have appropriate overseas health coverage. Supplemental Study Abroad insurance coverage through Cultural Insurance Services International(CISI) is required by the Center for Global Education in addition to primary health coverage through a parent and/or guardian. Students will be automatically enrolled for the specific dates of the program and will be billed to their Wheaton student account.

The cost of the CISI insurance is $33.00 per month. The charges will appear on the students Wheaton bill at regular billing cycles (July for fall semester and December for spring semester).

Paying Wheaton Bills

Students participating in a Wheaton study abroad program will receive a Wheaton bill in either July (fall semester) or December (spring semester) for participation in a study abroad program. Students should make sure all bills are paid in full prior to departure. Students with remaining balances will be unable to register for courses or obtain official transcripts.

Payment Plans
Students utilizing one of the payment plan options will be able to continue the plan for the year or semester on a study abroad program. It is important to check to make sure the monthly payment amounts will continue to add up to the total costs of the academic year or semester abroad. Further information about payment plans can be found at Payment Plans

Students currently receiving or needing financial aid for study abroad must plan ahead in order to make sure that their financial needs are met with regard to study abroad.
