Untitled (Warrior Riding over Congressional Record)
Ledger style drawing on 1930 and 1931 Congressional Record paper, mounted on embossed water color paper.
2002, 32 x 33 (including mat)
The warrior is painted in traditional X-ray, or transparent style, so that we see the record of a Congressional session through the proud warrior--in a way that heightens the conflict of power represented in traditional ledger art, or, in this case, between the powers of the U. S. government (ground) and Native sovereignty (figure), as well as historic recovery.
