wheaton presents honorary degrees

Wheaton's 2003 commencement speaker was the historian and author David Levering Lewis S'63, a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner for his two-volume biography of W.E.B. Du Bois. Joining him on the dais on May 17 were honorary degree recipients Esther Newberg '63, joint head of the New York Office of International Creative Management; Patricia Phelps de Cisneros '69, philanthropist and champion supporter of innovative programs focusing on Latin American education, culture, health and environment; and Catherine Keener '83, Academy Award-nominated actor (Being John Malkovich) and 1996 Alumnae/i Achievement Award recipient.
