Art and Art History 319. Architecture of the 19th Century

This course explores the changing roles of architectural design in Europe and America, from the Enlightenment to the fin-de-siècle. Style and ornament, new building typologies, and urban space are considered in light of social, political and economic developments.  Ultimately, the course links 19th century design with the advent of 20th century modernism.
