Lyons swept during a pair of non-conference matches at StonehillSeptember 6, 2008 EASTON, MA- The Wheaton College women's volleyball team suffered a pair of non-conference losses at nearby Division II Stonehill College on Saturday, as the Lyons fell to the host Skyhawks, 3-0 (14-25, 15-25, 13-25) before succumbing to Connecticut College, 3-0 (11-25, 16-25, 15-25) in Merkert Gymnasium. Wheaton's meeting with Stonehill was the first since 1993. With the losses, the Blue and White falls to 2-4. Senior Liana Merrill (Northwood, NH/Coe-Brown Northwood Academy), junior Lauren Kraus (Westboro, MA/Westboro) and freshman Miranda Howitt (San Francisco, CA/International) paced Wheaton's offense in the early match with six kills apiece. Sophomore setter Becca Rose (Sudbury, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) had 21 assists and five digs. Freshman Emily Davisson (Carpinteria, CA/Laguna Blanca School) led the defense with 17 digs, while Howitt and Merrill had nine and five, respectively. Against Connecticut College, Howitt had four kills, while Rose chipped in with 12 assists. Merrill and sophomore Kristen Hunt (Milford, CT/Jonathan Law) accounted for five digs each. Hunt and Kraus notched two service aces apiece, and Davisson added four digs. Wheaton is off until next weekend, when the team travels to the West Coast for the California Lutheran University Tournament.
