Lyons complete Hilton Head trip on high note, down Baldwin-Wallace, 6-3March 12, 2008 HILTON HEAD, SC- The Wheaton College women's tennis team finished its Hilton Head, South Carolina, trip on a high note Wednesday afternoon, as the Lyons won for the third time in four southern matches with a 6-3 decision over Baldwin-Wallace College of Ohio. Wheaton returns to New England with an 11-6 record. The Blue and White's six victories came courtesy of a doubles sweep and singles split. Wheaton's top two doubles tandems had little difficulty, as each recorded 8-1 triumphs. Freshmen Sarah Geocaris (Newport Beach, CA/Sage Hill School) and Catherine Teague (Manchester, NH/Central) sided in the top spot, while senior Maya Milic-Strkalj (Philadelphia, PA/Friends' Central School) and sophomore Katherine Knies (Purdys, NY/North Salem) comprised the second team. In the third doubles slot, junior Mallory Farmer (Washington, CT/The Gunnery) and first-year Ellen Van Faasen (Manchester, MA/Manchester Essex Regional) teamed up for an 8-4 win. Teague, Geocaris and Van Faasen collected victories in the first, second and fourth singles matches, respectively. Teague defeated her opponent by a 6-3, 6-3 count, Geocaris gave up just four games, and Van Faasen won 6-2, 7-5. The Lyons don't compete again for nearly three weeks, when they host the Wheaton Invitational on March 30 beginning at 10:00 a.m. This page is maintained by Scott Dietz. Last updated on 7/31/08. |
