Lyons fall to 1-1 on spring trip, drop decision against Division II squad

March 10, 2008

HILTON HEAD, SC- The Wheaton College women's tennis team was denied its second consecutive 10-win season, and third in eight years, by dropping a 9-0 decision to Division II Northern Kentucky University on Monday. The Lyons are now 9-6, having split two matches on their spring trip, while the Norse improved to 2-1.

The Blue and White came closest to pulling out a point during action at first doubles, as freshmen Sarah Geocaris (Newport Beach, CA/Sage Hill School) and Catherine Teague (Manchester, NH/Central) narrowly fell by a 9-7 margin.

Geocaris dropped a 7-6 decision during the first set of her second singles match before succumbing in the second set, 6-3. No other Lyon won more than three games, as the Norse dropped only nine games in the remaining five singles matches.

The Lyons play for the third time in as many days tomorrow, taking on Ohio Wesleyan University at 12:00 p.m.
