Women's tennis begins spring trip by downing Shenandoah, 9-0March 9, 2008 HILTON HEAD, SC- The Wheaton College women's tennis team lost a total of just seven games during singles play and four in doubles action while sweeping Shenandoah University of Virginia, 9-0 on Sunday. Now 9-5, the Lyons opened their five-match spring slate while dropping the Hornets to 1-2, as each team competed for the first time since the fall. During doubles action, freshmen Sarah Geocaris (Newport Beach, CA/Sage Hill School) and Catherine Teague (Manchester, NH/Central) combined for an 8-0 triumph at number one for their 11th victory of the season, while Wheaton's second- and third-position tandems each won by an 8-2 count. Senior Maya Milic-Strkalj (Philadelphia, PA/Friends' Central School) and junior Mallory Farmer (Washington, CT/The Gunnery) combined at number two, while sophomore Katherine Knies (Purdys, NY/North Salem) and freshman Ellen Van Faasen (Manchester, MA/Manchester Essex Regional) won in the third slot. Farmer and Geocaris each blanked their singles foes, winning in the sixth and second spots, respectively, while Milic-Strkalj at five and Van Faasen at four lost only one game apiece. At number one, Teague won 6-0, 6-2, while Knies was victorious in the third position, 6-3, 6-0.
