Geocaris and Teague selected as NEWMAC doubles tandem of the week

October 1, 2007

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College women's tennis standouts Sarah Geocaris (Newport Beach, CA/Sage Hill School) and Catherine Teague (Manchester, NH/Central) were chosen as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Doubles Team of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, September 30.

The freshman duo earned the honor after corralling a key victory during a 5-4 win at Mount Holyoke College on Saturday. The award was the first of Geocaris' career, while Teague had drawn singles accolades on September 10. Their 8-1 first-position victory proved to be the difference against Mount Holyoke, which had bounced the Blue and White from the 2006 NEWMAC Tournament. Geocaris and Teague are 7-1 in dual matches, including 3-1 in league play.

During singles action, Geocaris yielded only one game in the second slot, while Teague picked up a 6-4, 6-0 victory in the top position. Geocaris is now 8-2 in singles, while Teague is 7-3, and each has posted a 3-1 record against NEWMAC competition.

Wheaton returns to action tomorrow with a 4:00 p.m. match at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
