Freshman tandem represents Wheaton at ITA Regional TournamentSeptember 21, 2007 CAMBRIDGE, MA- Freshmen Sarah Geocaris (Newport Beach, CA/Sage Hill School) and Catherine Teague (Manchester, NH/Central) represented the Wheaton College women's tennis team at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Tournament hosted by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) on Friday. Geocaris cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory over a player from New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) counterpart Clark University in the opening round of the singles championship bracket before falling to Middlebury College senior Claire Smyser (Houston, TX/Kinkaid), who entered the tournament as the eighth seed, 6-1, 6-2. Teague had a tough opening draw in the first round, going up against the second seed in junior Cary Gibson (Augusta, GA/Augusta Prep) of Williams College. After suffering a 6-2, 6-3 setback to Gibson, Teague dropped a three-set decision to a foe from Bates College. Teague posted a 6-3 win in the first set before falling 6-4 and 10-7 during the final two sets. In doubles action, Geocaris and Teague faced a seeded team from Vassar College, as they battled senior Elysa Kliman (Toronto, Ontario/The Bishop Strachan School) and junior Krista Romita (Baltimore, MD/Roland Park Country Day) to a hard-fought 8-5 loss. The duo later completed play with the final match of the night, succumbing to an opposing team from Babson College, 9-8.
