Teague begins career with NEWMAC women's tennis singles accolade

September 10, 2007

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College women's tennis standout Catherine Teague (Manchester, NH/Central) continued an impressive start to her career after learning she was named New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Singles Player of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, September 9.

Playing in the top singles and doubles positions for the Lyons, Teague has helped lead the squad to a perfect 5-0 record, which also extended Wheaton's winning streak to nine matches dating back to last spring. Teague has yielded only 10 games in sweeping each of her five opponents. She is also half of a doubles tandem that has combined to lose just seven games while winning all five matches.

Teague blanked her counterparts from Clark University on Saturday and Gordon College on September 3 and surrendered just two games at Simmons College on September 1. She defeated her opponent from Union College by a 6-3, 6-0 final yesterday. Teague's final win of 6-2, 6-3 came against Salve Regina University to open the season on August 31.

With the week off from competition, Wheaton is back on the courts on Saturday afternoon for a 1:00 p.m. home match against conference foe Springfield College.
