Lyons sweep past Clark, 9-0 in NEWMAC actionSeptember 27, 2005 WORCESTER, MA- The Wheaton College women's tennis team lost just three points during a dominating 9-0 victory over Clark University in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Tuesday. The Lyons improved to 5-3 overall and 2-2 in the conference, while the Cougars fell to 2-6 on the year and 0-4 in league play. Wheaton began the match with three 8-0 doubles victories. The teams of juniors Jamie Weiss (Chicago, IL/Francis W. Parker School) and Darby McDermott (Briarcliff Manor, NY/Hackley School), sophomore Briana Jackson (Redding, CT/Joel Barlow) and freshman Mallory Farmer (Washington, CT/The Gunnery), and sophomore Maya Milic-Strkalj (Philadelphia, PA/Friends' Central School) and freshman Oriana Federico (Andover, MA/Lawrence Academy) each breezed past their opponents. In singles action, Weiss picked up a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at number one against Clark junior Emily Slack (Cape Elizabeth, ME/Cape Elizabeth). Farmer and junior Eden Gudonis (Manchester, MA/Governor Dummer Academy) also recorded wins without losing a single point, claiming victories at the fifth and sixth slots, respectively. McDermott won at number two, 6-1, 6-0, while Jackson took a 6-0, 6-1 decision in the third position. Freshman Meghan Doyle (Hingham, MA/Hingham) won, 6-1, 6-0 at the fourth spot.
