September 12, 2005

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College women's tennis standout Jamie Weiss (Chicago, IL/Francis W. Parker School) garnered New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player-of-the-Week accolades for the week ending on Sunday, September 11.

Weiss, who is in her third season with the Lyons, recorded three number-one singles victories last week. Against Gordon College on Monday, Weiss collected a 6-3, 6-1 victory in the top spot in helping Wheaton to an 8-1 final and second straight win to open the season.

On Saturday, Weiss recorded a hard-fought 7-5, 7-6 victory against Skidmore, as the Lyons suffered a 5-4 setback to the Thoroughbreds. She finished the week with a 6-3, 6-1 decision in Wheaton's 9-0 sweep at Union College on Sunday.

Helping lead Wheaton to a 3-1 record in the early going, Weiss is a perfect 4-0 in singles play and 3-1 at first doubles. Weiss and the nine-member Lyon squad open conference play this Tuesday, when they host Babson College at Clark Tennis courts beginning at 4:00 p.m.
