Lyons run winning streak to four behind 6-3 victory against Salem StateApril 8, 2008 NORTON, MA- The Wheaton College men's tennis team completed a six-match homestand with a 6-3 non-conference victory over Salem State College Tuesday afternoon at Clark Tennis Courts. Today's match was originally scheduled to be played in Salem last Monday before being pushed back to this week and contested at Wheaton. Running their winning streak to four matches, the Lyons raised their overall record to 8-2, having finished its regular season home slate with a 5-1 mark. Wheaton snapped Salem State's four-match winning streak, dropping the Vikings to 5-4 on the season. The Lyons began play by taking two of three doubles matches, with sophomore Kyle Hudgins (Uxbridge, MA/Uxbridge) and freshman Brian Krantz (Milford, CT/Joseph A. Foran) posting a decisive 8-3 triumph in the second slot. Freshmen Harry Altman (Riverdale, NY/The Dwight School) and Cullen Garrity (Middletown, MD/Saint James School) narrowly gave the hosts a 2-1 edge heading into singles action with a 9-8 decision at number three. In the top doubles position, sophomore James Little (Mount Desert, ME/Mount Desert Island) and freshman Gregory Poulin (Boxboro, MA/Home Schooled) fell to sophomore Adrien Malosse (Triel-sur-Seine, France/North Broward Prep) and freshman Rob Random (Newbury, MA/Triton Regional) by an 8-5 count. Wheaton claimed four singles triumphs, including in three of the top four spots, as Hudgins, Krantz, Little and junior Nii Manfoi Davies (Town & Country, MO/The Principia) swept their opponents in straight sets. Little collected a 6-2, 6-3 decision at number two, Hudgins clinched the match win with a 6-2, 7-6 decision in the third position, Krantz won 6-1, 6-1 at four and Davies picked up a victory in his first collegiate singles match with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph at number six. Wheaton hits the road tomorrow for the first time this spring when it travels to New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foe Babson College for a 3:30 p.m. start.
