Lyons end spring trip with 7-2 loss to regionally-ranked Baldwin-Wallace

March 12, 2008

HILTON HEAD, SC- The Wheaton College men's tennis team took its first loss of the spring season Wednesday afternoon, as the Lyons fell to Baldwin-Wallace College, 7-2, finishing their southern trip with a 3-1 record.

Today's match was between a pair of regionally-ranked opponents, as Wheaton is ranked 18th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast poll, while the Yellow Jackets are 20th in the Central poll.

After dropping all three doubles matches, the Lyons needed to win five of the six singles decisions in order to capture the team victory. Wheaton picked up two wins in the third and fourth positions.

Sophomore Kyle Hudgins (Uxbridge, MA/Uxbridge) notched a 7-5, 6-0 triumph in the third spot, while freshman Brian Krantz (Milford, CT/Joseph A. Foran) won 6-2, 6-2 at number four.

The Lyons return to action next Tuesday for an in-region home match against local foe Bridgewater State College. Start time is set for 3:30 p.m.
