Men's tennis off to fourth 3-0 start in six seasons, notches third sweepMarch 11, 2008 HILTON HEAD, SC- For the third straight match this spring, the Wheaton College men's tennis team notched a 9-0 victory, downing West Virginia's University of Charleston on Tuesday during its spring trip. The Lyons began a season 3-0 for the fourth time in six years. Sophomore James Little (Mount Desert, ME/Mount Desert Island) and freshman Greg Poulin (Boxboro, MA/Home Schooled) paired for Wheaton's most convincing doubles victory, 8-4 at one, while the Lyons' other two pairings came out on top in close matches. Sophomore Kyle Hudgins (Uxbridge, MA/Uxbridge) and freshman Brian Krantz (Milford, CT/Joseph A. Foran) earned a 9-7 triumph at number two, while first-years Harry Altman (Riverdale, NY/The Dwight School) and Cullen Garrity (Middletown, MD/Saint James School) notched an 8-6 victory in the third position. Five singles players won in straight sets. Poulin won his top-singles match, 6-1, 5-1 when his opponent retired, Hudgins yielded only three games at number three, and sophomore Chapman Beekman (South Kingstown, RI/South Kingstown) dropped four games at six. Little notched a 6-4, 6-1 win at second singles, Krantz battle through a 6-2, 7-6 victory at number four, and Altman rallied from one set down for a 1-6, 6-1, 10-3 triumph.
