Wheaton records second straight shutout with 9-0 blanking of DefianceMarch 10, 2008 HILTON HEAD, SC- On the strength of two shutout doubles victories, the Wheaton College men's tennis team rolled to its second consecutive 9-0 triumph in as many days, as the Lyons blanked Defiance College of Ohio on Monday afternoon to move to 2-0. A pair of 8-0 shutouts in the second and third doubles positions got Wheaton off to a strong start, as sophomore Kyle Hudgins (Uxbridge, MA/Uxbridge) and freshman Brian Krantz (Milford, CT/Joseph A. Foran) comprised the second tandem while first-year players Harry Altman (Riverdale, NY/The Dwight School) and Cullen Garrity (Middletown, MD/Saint James School) teamed up as the third duo. Sophomore James Little (Mount Desert, ME/Mount Desert Island) and freshman Greg Poulin (Boxboro, MA/Home Schooled) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 decision in the first position. In singles play, Hudgins, Krantz, Little and Poulin each recorded straight-set wins in the top four spots. Poulin posted a 6-3, 6-4 triumph at number one, Little allowed a combined four games in the second position, Hudgins collected a 6-1, 6-4 win at three, and Krantz was victorious by a 6-2, 6-4 count in the fourth spot. Sophomore Eric Pelletier (Bangor, ME/Bangor) earned a 6-3, 7-6 victory in the fifth singles position, while freshman Trent Faltin (Durham, NH/Oyster River) picked up his first collegiate win with a 6-2, 6-4 decision at number six.
