Poulin wins consolation final as Lyons finish play at Stonehill InvitationalOctober 7, 2007 EASTON, MA- Freshman Greg Poulin (Boxboro, MA/Home Schooled) highlighted the Wheaton College men's tennis team's run through the Stonehill College Invitational by winning in the consolation final of the second singles flight as play at the two-day tournament concluded on Sunday. The Lyons, who completed their fall slate, finished sixth out of eight teams from across the NCAA's three divisions. After falling in the first round, Poulin held off Connecticut College freshman Craig Stanton (Warwick, RI/Bishop Hendricken), 9-8 in the consolation semifinals. During the consolation final, Poulin rolled past Stonehill junior William Herchel (Hampden, MA/Minnechaug Regional), 8-3. Sophomore Kyle Hudgins (Uxbridge, MA/Uxbridge) also defeated a Connecticut College foe, dropping freshman Marshall Collins (Lexington, MA/Lexington), 6-3, 6-3 in the first round of third singles. Hudgins lost in the semifinal round, 6-1, 6-1. Freshman Brian Krantz (Milford, CT/Joseph A. Foran) competed in the fourth singles flight, as he rallied in the opening round for a 0-6, 6-2, 10-7 victory against College of the Holy Cross sophomore Dan Phelan (Chicopee, MA/Chicopee). During the semifinal round, Krantz narrowly fell in the first set to Salve Regina University sophomore Andrew Martin (Glastonbury, CT/Glastonbury), 6-4 before suffering a second-set sweep. Also competing for the Lyons at the invitational was sophomore James Little (Mount Desert, ME/Mount Desert Island), who lost by a 7-5, 6-2 count in the opening round of first singles before dropping a consolation match, 8-1. At first doubles, freshmen Harry Altman (Riverdale, NY/The Dwight School) and Cullen Garrity (Middletown, MD/Saint James School) fell in the opening round, 8-4 before suffering an 8-2 defeat in consolation play. Wheaton is off until the spring, which begins when the Lyons play four matches in four days in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
