Lyon men win third straight following sweep of Roger Williams, 9-0April 4, 2007 NORTON, MA- The Wheaton College men's tennis team won its third consecutive match and second straight via a sweep with a 9-0 victory over visiting Roger Williams University Wednesday afternoon at Beard Field House. The match was originally slated to be played in Bristol. Winners in five of their last six matches, the Lyons move to 6-2 on the season, while the Hawks slipped below the .500 mark at 7-8. Senior Brad Dressler (Cranston, RI/Cranston West) improved to a perfect 8-0 at third singles following today's 6-1, 6-1 victory. Classmate Brian Danishevsky (Hamden, CT/Hamden Hall Country Day School) and freshman Kyle Hudgins (Uxbridge, MA/Uxbridge) surrendered just one point each at second and sixth singles, respectively. Also collecting straight-set decisions were seniors Payum Payman (Pleasant Valley, NY/Arlington), Raymour Radhakrishnan (Amherst, NH/Bridgton Academy) and Will Stoddard (Huntington, VT/Mount Mansfield Union). Payman picked up a 6-1, 6-1 triumph in the top spot, Stoddard posted a 6-3, 6-2 win at number four, and Radhakrishnan earned a 6-4, 6-1 decision in the fifth position. At second doubles, Danishevsky and Radhakrishnan swept their opponents, while Stoddard and freshman James Little (Mount Desert, ME/Mount Desert Island) were victorious by an 8-2 count in the third slot. The Hawks had their best showing in the top doubles spot, as Dressler and Payman recorded an 8-5 win over senior Dana Morin (Bellingham, MA) and junior Dan Roberts (Milford, CT). Wheaton returns to New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday with a road match at the United States Coast Guard Academy at 1:00 p.m. This page is maintained by Scott Dietz.
