Dressler draws NEWMAC accolade for third straight week

March 26, 2007

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College men's tennis standout Brad Dressler (Cranston, RI/Cranston West) was named New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, March 25. It marked the third consecutive week in which Dressler was honored by the NEWMAC, as he was half of the league's top doubles tandem in each of the previous two weeks.

A senior, Dressler picked up a pair of third singles wins over players from regionally-ranked teams to remain undefeated during Wheaton's 1-1 week. On Tuesday, he downed a player from 14th-ranked Brandeis University by a 7-6, 3-6, 10-7 count for one of only two points the Lyons recorded against the Judges. On Sunday, Dressler corralled a 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 win versus 11th-ranked Skidmore College to push the Lyons past the Thoroughbreds, 5-4.

Dressler is now 6-0 this spring and 8-2 dating back to the fall. His singles win against Skidmore was the 75th victory of his career between singles and doubles action. In doubles play this academic year, Dressler has paired with three different Lyons to post a 10-5 record. This spring alone, he and classmate Payum Payman (Pleasant Valley, NY/Arlington) are 4-2.

The Lyons are 4-2, with five of their last eight regular season matches coming against NEWMAC competition. Wheaton travels to Clark University on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. match.
