Four three-set singles wins push Lyons past regionally-ranked SkidmoreMarch 25, 2007 SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY- The top four singles players on the Wheaton College men's tennis team each won in three sets as the Lyons squeezed by regionally-ranked Skidmore College, 5-4 on Sunday. The Blue and White is now 4-2, while the Thoroughbreds fell to 6-3. Skidmore is 11th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast region poll. Wheaton trailed, 2-1 after doubles play. Seniors Brad Dressler (Cranston, RI/Cranston West) and Payum Payman (Pleasant Valley, NY/Arlington) combined for an 8-6 Lyon victory in the top spot, but the Blue and White fell at two and three. Seniors Brian Danishevsky (Hamden, CT/Hamden Hall Country Day School) and Raymour Radhakrishnan (Amherst, NH/Bridgton Academy) narrowly lost in the second position to Skidmore seniors Tyson McKechnie (Stowe, VT/Stowe) and Josh Rucker (Westport, CT/Staples), 9-8. In singles play, Payman, Danishevsky, Dressler and senior Will Stoddard (Huntington, VT/Mount Mansfield Union) were victorious in the first through fourth positions, respectively. Payman rallied for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 win, while Danishevsky notched a 6-3, 6-7, 6-1 triumph. Dressler corralled a 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 victory, and Stoddard picked up a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 win. Radhakrishnan also went to three sets in the fifth spot before dropping a 10-5 tiebreaker. Five of Wheaton's final eight regular season matches are against New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foes, as the Lyons' league slate begins on Saturday at Clark University at 1:00 p.m. This page is maintained by Scott Dietz.
