March 19, 2007

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College men's tennis standouts Brad Dressler (Cranston, RI/Cranston West) and Payum Payman (Pleasant Valley, NY/Arlington) notched New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Doubles Team-of-the-Week honors for the second consecutive week, while Payman earned a singles player-of-the-week nod for the week ending on Sunday, March 18.

The senior tandem is ranked 12th regionally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), while Payman is ranked 17th regionally in singles. This week marks the ninth and 10th times in his career that Payman has drawn NEWMAC weekly honors, while Dressler has now corralled doubles accolades on three occasions.

Payman went 2-1 out of the top singles spot during Wheaton's 2-1 week, as he recorded his 100th career victory between singles and doubles play on Tuesday with a 6-2, 6-0 win against Hobart College. Payman also downed his Tiffin University opponent by a 7-6, 6-0 count on Wednesday. Entering the Lyons' northern schedule, Payman has a 102-44 career mark.

Dressler and Payman moved to 5-2 as a tandem this academic year by posting a 2-1 record last week. On Tuesday, the duo defeated a Hobart twosome by an 8-6 margin before upending its Tiffin opponent, 8-4. Dressler has also been superb in singles play, posting a 6-2 ledger, including a perfect 4-0 at third singles.

Wheaton is 3-1 following a four-match swing to Hilton Head, South Carolina. The Lyons begin their northern slate tomorrow by hosting Brandeis University at 4:00 p.m.
