Dressler and Payman earn NEWMAC doubles honors

March 12, 2007

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College men's tennis standouts Brad Dressler (Cranston, RI/Cranston West) and Payum Payman (Pleasant Valley, NY/Arlington) were named New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Doubles Team of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, March 11. It was the first week of league honors this spring.

The seniors combined for an 8-2 victory in the first doubles position on Sunday, helping Wheaton to an 8-1 win over Nazareth College in Hilton Head, South Carolina, during the Lyons' only action of the week. The contest kicked off a four-match swing down south for spring break.

Including last fall, Dressler and Payman improved to 3-1 in their first season as doubles partners. The duo is ranked 12th regionally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Against Nazareth, Payman was also triumphant at first singles and is now two wins shy of 100 for his career. Dressler notched a straight-set win in the third singles spot.

At 1-0, the Lyons continue their Hilton Head schedule by facing Rhodes College of Tennessee today at 12:00 p.m.
