Men's trio finishes fall tennis season at ITA Regional TournamentSeptember 30, 2006 WILLIAMSTOWN, MA- Seniors Brian Danishevsky (Hamden, CT/Hamden Hall Country Day), Brad Dressler (Cranston, RI/Cranston West) and Payum Payman (Pleasant Valley, NY/Arlington) each competed at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) New England Regional Tournament this weekend, as the Wheaton College men's tennis team concluded its fall slate at Williams College. Danishevsky highlighted Wheaton's showing in singles play, advancing all the way to the quarterfinals after picking up a pair of victories on Friday. In the first round, he downed Trinity College junior Tom Dolan (Shrewsbury, MA/Saint John's) by a 6-1, 6-4 score before knocking off another New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) opponent, 10th-seeded Amherst College sophomore Zach Lerner (Scarsdale, NY/Scarsdale), by a 6-2, 6-2 final in the second round. Danishevsky's run came to an end with a 6-2, 6-3 quarterfinal loss at the hands of Bowdoin College senior Sam Bitetti (Norwell, MA/Norwell), the fifth seed. Dressler downed a fellow New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) athlete during the first round, picking up a 3-6, 6-2, 10-5 victory against United States Coast Guard Academy junior Ryan Beck (Freehold, NJ). In the next round, Dressler nearly defeated the eighth seed in the tournament before falling 6-3, 6-7, 9-11 to Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) senior Thomas Dohlman (Wellesley, MA/Wellesley). Payman, the fourth seed in the bracket, fell in the first round to freshman Jeremy Weinberger (Chappaqua, NY) of host Williams by a 6-1, 7-6 final. However, he advanced all the way to the consolation semifinals behind a pair of Saturday victories. Payman first downed Bates College freshman Maxwell Berger (Concord, NH/Concord) 6-7, 6-4, 10-6, before knocking off Amherst senior Karti Subramanian (Bethesda, MD/Washington International School) 7-5, 6-2. Payman fell in the semifinals to Middlebury College freshman Andrew Lee (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie) 6-1, 6-3 and will enter the spring season with 96 career wins between singles and doubles play. In doubles play on Friday, Danishevsky and Dressler fell to the MIT tandem of Dohlman and junior Eric Beren (Dallas, TX/Lake Highlands), dropping a hard-fought 8-6 decision to its NEWMAC counterparts.
