Lyons corral second straight sweep of NEWMAC men's tennis awardsApril 17, 2006 NORTON, MA- Wheaton College men's tennis standouts Sean Daly (Miami, FL/La Salle) and Payum Payman (Pleasant Valley, NY/Arlington) earned New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) accolades for the week ending on Sunday, April 16, as Daly was named singles player of the week while the duo drew doubles team honors.
In doubles, the tandem of Daly and Payman, a junior, improved to 7-2 when playing at first doubles and remained unbeaten in conference play with two more victories last week. The duo knocked off a team from Babson, 8-5 and a twosome from Springfield, 8-3.
Daly and Payman lead the Lyons, who are ranked sixth in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast poll with a 9-3 overall record and 4-0 conference mark, into a non-league showdown at Salve Regina University on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. On Saturday, Wheaton squares off with NEWMAC co-leader Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to determine the regular season conference champ.
