Lyons sweep NEWMAC weekly singles and doubles honorsApril 10, 2006 NORTON, MA- Wheaton College men's tennis standout Payum Payman (Pleasant Valley, NY/Arlington) was a part of both singles and doubles awards announced by the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) this afternoon for the week ending on Sunday, April 9. Sophomore Sean Daly (Miami, FL/La Salle) joined Payman on the doubles team of the week.
Payman won all three of his singles matches during the week, dropping a total of 11 points. The tri-captain picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win against nationally-ranked New York University on Friday, as well as a 6-2, 6-3 victory during NEWMAC play on Saturday versus the United States Coast Guard Academy. Payman notched one of Wheaton's two singles points, 6-3, 6-1, during the Lyons' loss to regionally-ranked Tufts University. Payman is now 15-2 on the season, including 9-0 in dual matches.
Helping lead regionally-ranked Wheaton to a 7-3 season record and an unblemished 2-0 conference mark, the tandem looks to keep the Lyons unbeaten in league play with a match at Babson College on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. This page is maintained by Scott Dietz. Last updated on 2/21/07. |
